Oil, gas and coal are fuelling climate change with devastating impacts on nature and communities. In the recent election, the federal government pledged to end fossil fuel subsidies by 2023 and to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030.

Why wait? Join us in calling for an end to public financing for fossil fuels in Budget 2022, and for long-term investments in nature!

Direct taxpayer handouts are just the tip of the iceberg. Our government also backs generous financing arrangements — like loan guarantees — to keep fossil fuel production on life support.

Twenty countries, including Canada, have committed to ending direct international public finance for unabated coal, oil and gas by the end of 2022, and prioritize clean energy finance. That’s great news, but Canada needs to match this commitment at home.

As the world moves to a low-carbon economy, it’s time for government spending to move from promoting environmentally damaging infrastructure to protecting natural systems.
